This Song Is Beyoncé’s First No. 1 Hit In 9 Years
It’s hard to imagine a world without Beyoncé topping the charts, but apparently the singer hasn’t been at the top for quite a long time now. Although Queen Bey has definitely made her mark on the music scene in the past couple of years, the living legend apparently hasn’t had No. 1 single in nine years. But luckily her drought finally ended thanks to her duet with Ed Sheeran on “Perfect.”
According to Billboard, “Perfect” recently climbed to the number-one seed on the Hot 100 charts this week. In its full tracking week, the single reportedly sold 181,000 downloads, according to Nielsen Music. In terms of streaming, the songs charted with 34.9 million U.S. streams.
“Perfect” makes Beyoncé’s sixth Hot 100 No. 1 in her career, but her first achievement since her solo track “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” debuted in Dec. 2008. The last female artist to top Beyoncé’s musical drought was Christina Aguilera, who took a break from commercial success between the releases of 2001’s “Lady Marmalade” and 2011’a “Move Like Jagger.”
Sure, Beyoncé may not have been at the top of the charts, but she was still on her A-game. He most recent album, Lemonade, received tons of acclaim and countless nominations. So, it’s safe to say she’ll always be the queen in our eyes.
