Akon Reveals He Has Finalized Agreement For 'Akon City' In Senegal
It’s official! Konvict Muzik honcho Akon has established his own city in the West African nation of Senegal.
The rapper and serial entrepreneur revealed the exciting news via social media on Monday (Jan. 13). In simultaneous updates posted to his official Twitter and Instagram accounts, the Senegal-raised singer-rapper announced that he had finalized the agreement for a city named after him.
He celebrated the latest major development by posting a photo of himself holding the signed paperwork for his new city. Two representatives that appear to be officials from the African nation stand beside him in the photo.
'Looking forward to hosting you there in the future,' he told his millions of followers
This new update comes after Akon recently did an interview with Nick Cannon in November of 2019 where he detailed his plans for Akon City, revealing that construction on the city had already begun in March of 2019. He further explained that the city will be built over the span of 10 years in a series of phases, with the first stage of development set to kick off in 2025.
The city will reportedly be a five-minute drive from Senegal's newly opened international airport, according to Travel + Leisure.
