Prince's New Album To Be Streamed Through TIDAL
Warner Bros. Records and Tidal are teaming up to release a 15-track album, featuring unreleased recordings from Prince on his birthday, June 7. Variety reports that the posthumous project, aptly titled Originals, will contain 14 original recordings of the demos that the late singer wrote for or sold to other artists. Prince would’ve been 61 this year.
The tracks were personally selected by Jay-Z and media mogul Troy Carter, the entertainment adviser of The Prince Estate, and are sourced from Prince’s infamous music vault.
We almost got a digital release of Prince's album HitNRun: Phase 1 in 2016 through an exclusive deal the late singer reportedly inked with Roc Nation before his passing. But, the Prince Estate shut that down with a lawsuit.
Fans got their hopes up again in 2018 after Prince’s estate shared a previously unheard recording of "Nothing Compares 2 U" alongside unseen rehearsal footage of Prince and The Revolution. Many were left wondering if it was a tease for something to come out of Prince's music vault that is still holding albums-worth of unfinished music.
Over 23 Prince albums, dating from 1995 to 2010, were first made available on streaming platforms for the first time ever last August. And that's not all! Sony allegedly still has 12 more albums more worth of material according to SPIN.

Originals will first premiere on Tidal and exclusively stream from June 7 to June 21. This is a first for any Prince release, who was adamantly opposed to digital services like Tidal. The digital release will be followed by deluxe limited edition CD and 180 gram 2LP releases on July 19th, and a standard CD release on June 21.
