SAG Awards 2013: Denzel Washington and Alfre Woodard Receive Nominations
Awards season is now in full swing. The Screen Actors Guild Awards has announced its nominees for the best and brightest male and female actor performances in television and film.
Denzel Washington earned a nod for Outstanding Lead Actor for his portrayal as a drunken pilot in the Robert Zemeckis film Flight. Actress Nicole Kidman received a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her performance as Charlotte Bess in Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy. Comedian Chris Tucker garnered an Outstanding Motion Picture Cast nod along with Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro for his role in Silver Linings Playbook.
In the television landscape, the nominations were plentiful. Alfre Woodard earned an Outstanding Female Actor Performance in a Miniseries nomination for her role as Ouiser in the all-Black remake of Steel Magnolias. In the comedy world, Sofia Vergara received an Outstanding Female Actor Performance for her role in the hit sitcom Modern Family.
As part of the Modern Family cast, Vergara also got a nod for Outstanding Performance By an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Other actors who received ensemble nominations include Tracy Morgan for his portrayal of Tracy Jordan on 30 Rock, Craig Robinson for his role as Darryl Philbin on The Office and Amber Riley as Mercedes Jones on Glee.
The winners will be announced when the 2013 Screen Actor Guild Awards are presented January 27, 2013.
