If you’ve been having trouble sending and receiving e-mail and accessing the Internet on your BlackBerry, you’re not alone.

Research in Motion, the company that manages BlackBerry’s network, has confirmed that the network has been on the fritz for the last three days, disrupting service for millions of users around the world. Disruptions were first reported in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa but have now hit the U.S. and the rest of North America.

The company has fielded complaints from BB users on its Twitter page, offering up apologies but no firm date for when services will be restored. RIM did post a link to its website, which provides updates since the trouble emerged on Oct. 10. “The resolution of this service issue is our Number One priority right now and we are working night and day to restore all BlackBerry services to normal levels,” the company wrote in a message posted on Wednesday.

On Tuesday the company wrote that the glitch was caused by “a core switch failure within RIM’s infrastructure,” and that the back-up system did not kick in as anticipated. The company said it was working to clear the backlog of data and to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

On Twitter, under the tag #DearBlackBerry, users have posted messages ranging from the cantankerous to the comical: “You have nearly destroyed my social life,” writes one user. “Please give me a refund so I can buy an iPhone. Sincerely, me,” writes another.
