Sen. John McCain Passes Away At 81
The outspoken Republican politician, Senator John McCain, reportedly has passed away after a battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma.
On Friday, the family of Sen. John McCain announced that he had decided to end treatment for the brain cancer that he had been battling.
“Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news our family already knew: He had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious. In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict,” the McCain family said in a statement obtained by the NY Times. “With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment.”
He was diagnosed with stage-four brain cancer last summer. McCain underwent surgery back in July 2017 to remove a blood clot that invaded his brain.
“Senator John Sidney McCain III died at 4:28 p.m. on August 25, 2018,” his family said in a statement Saturday, according to NBC News.
The former POW died at 81 years old.
BET extends its deepest love, prayers, and light to the McCain family at this time.
