Keith Lee's Viral Sushi Review Forces Seattle Restaurant to Close Amid Health Scare
A Seattle-based sushi restaurant has closed its doors following a food review by influencer Keith Lee, who appeared to unknowingly consume what fans speculated was a worm.
FOB Sushi Bar announced on Instagram that it would be shutting down two of its locations “until further notice” due to “recent food safety concerns.”
“In response to recent food safety concerns, we have decided to close our FOB Sushi locations in Seattle and Bellevue until further notice. Your health and safety are our highest priorities. We are conducting a thorough investigation to address the situation and will take all necessary measures to prevent it from happening again,” the restaurant stated. This closure comes after Lee’s review earlier this month, which sparked a wave of alarm and confusion among fans.
The controversy began when the former athlete turned social media star posted a clip of himself trying a piece of salmon. As Lee held up the fish to the camera, viewers noticed what seemed to be a wiggling movement. Many fans were disturbed, fearing the popular TikToker might have unknowingly eaten a worm.
The restaurant initially responded by defending its food safety standards, reassuring the public that they were “committed to upholding the highest health and safety standards to provide clean, fresh, and safe food for every customer.” They further explained that the movement in the fish could have been caused by Lee’s chopsticks, adding, “The movement observed in the fish may result from natural elasticity or the pressure of chopsticks when applied to its structure.”
However, Lee later took to social media again, sharing an update that added more fuel to the fire. He revealed that someone who visited FOB Sushi the day after him was hospitalized after eating there.

“I’m making this video because I just saw a video of somebody who went the day after us, and now they’re hospitalized,” Lee said. “Just me, my character, and who I am as a person… I’m gonna come out and I’mma say something about it,” he continued, sending his "heart and blessings" to the individual.
The food reviewer also directly addressed the restaurant's response, calling for accountability. “If somebody’s sitting in the hospital and something is moving in [the] food, I absolutely think there’s accountability that should be taken,” he said. He was critical of FOB’s explanation, stating, “For the restaurant to post a statement indicating that me holding the chopsticks a certain way is why the sushi moved, I personally don’t agree with it.”
Lee, who has eaten sushi “a thousand times,” argued that the movement in the fish was not something he caused. “I’ve held sushi a thousand different ways, and never once have I seen sushi behaving that way,” he said. “That’s not me saying it was a worm or it was a parasite, I’m just saying it was nothing that I did on my end. I was literally just eating as a customer. As a customer, I shouldn’t be the one getting blamed if it was something moving.”
Lee’s followers have expressed concern about the situation, but he reassured them that he has been feeling well since his visit to the restaurant.
As of now, FOB Sushi has closed both its Seattle and Bellevue locations until further notice.
