Diddy’s Son Hopes to Live Dad’s Football Dreams
With recruiters checking out his footwork on the field, Justin Combs is well on his way to fulfilling daddy Diddy’s dream deferred. “My dad was a quarterback in high school and wanted to play in the NFL,” Justin told AL.com. “But he broke his leg and missed his senior year.”
Justin, a junior who plays cornerback for Iona Prep in New York City, is visiting the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Samford this week. “I have family in Alabama, and I want to be closer to them,” he says. “The competition down south is what I dream about. They say New York football is nothing compared to Alabama and Florida, but I share the same passion for the game as the fans down there.”
While some coaches haven’t taken him seriously because of his famous father, he’s sincere about developing his talent on the field. “It's really tough, to be honest,” he explains. “It’s hard to be taken seriously at football because people think I can have anything I want.” He currently has offers for Middle Tennessee and Tennessee Tech.
