Beyoncé Takes BeyGOOD to Haiti
Beyoncé knows her fans will follow her anywhere, and on Saturday (May 16) she turned the BeyHive's attention to Haiti. The music icon traveled to the Carribbean nation with the United Nations to survey the progress made in the country's redevelopment after the devastating 2010 earthquake.
Rocking a simple ponytail and a white t-shirt emblazoned with "BeyGOOD," the name of her charitable organization, Bey accompanied the UN's humanitarian chief Baroness Amos to visit several towns and assist with handing out food, water and medical supplies.
Haiti UN mission spokeswoman Sophie Boutaud de la Combe added that Beyoncé wanted to "meet some of the people who were affected by," the quake.
Five years after the devastating natural disaster, Haiti is still struggling to get back on its feet. The UN recently warned that the country is in the midst of an unprecedented cholera epidemic due to the lack of shelter and poor plumbing conditions.
BeyGOOD, which supports a variety of causes, recently partnered with MusicForRelief.org to raise money and awareness for Nepal after the Southeast Asian nation was left devastated after two major earthquakes; and has run a food drive stateside in Bey's hometown of Houston.
