Game Enters Plea for Punching Off-Duty Cop Charge
Game has entered a response to charges that he punched an off-duty LAPD officer earlier this year. According to the Associated Press, Game pleaded not guilty Monday in Los Angeles County court.
The 36-year-old Compton native faces a felony criminal threats charge and a misdemeanor assault charge over the run-in with rookie cop Onyebuchi Awaji during a charity basketball game in March. Trash talk between the opposing teams reportedly escalated into a physical fight.
Awaji claimed in court this month that Game attacked and threatened to kill him. Per earlier reports, Game’s story is that he was defending himself after Awaji swung and indicated that he had a gun in his gym bag.
The rapper, born Jayceon Taylor, is staring down additional charges for allegedly attacking a photographer hired to record him being served with Awaji’s $12 million lawsuit.
A judge ruled that there is evidence to take both cases to trial, though no date has been set. Game returns to court Jan. 11.
