Kendrick Lamar's Surprise to This Disabled Fan Might Just Bring You to Tears
When Compton’s treasured rap prophet Kendrick Lamar isn’t cooking up double-platinum best-selling hip-hop albums, taking on awesome big brother of the year duties or popping up for surprise visits for his fellow industry mates’ fans, you’ll likely find him going above and beyond for his own supporters.
Enter superfan of TDE and K-Dot Jennifer Philips, who just received the present of a lifetime from her rap idol that’s changing her life in the best of ways.
Phillips became a quadriplegic after a car crash in 2007, subjecting her to a wheelchair. But the Dallas fan has never let her condition slow her down from all the pleasures life has to offer, like visiting Kendrick at his Dallas concert on Thursday (July 13). And after meeting the DAMN. hip-hop genius in person during the show, things are actually catching up to glorious speed for her after he gifted her with merchandise and a wheelchair accessible van.
In a video of the encounter, K-Dot hands Phillips an autographed jacket with a special message penned on it from the Compton emcee himself.
“Thank you for always supporting me,” the message reads. “[You’re an] inspiration for me. You are strong and positive. [You’re] kind and beautiful. For all the years of inspiring me, the least I can do is make sure [you’re] comfortable driving in the city. A gift from me to you. You’re always appreciated!”
And always grateful she is as well, posting to her Instagram a special thanks to K-Dot for such a kind gesture. Revealing that she’s been to every one of his Dallas appearances, totaling eight, Phillips commemorated Kendrick and the entire TDE team as all-around amazing people.
“I was a big fan of music and concerts before my injury but I never supported and loved a label like theirs before,” she said. “Of course they have great music but they are also great people. None of them have ever treated me like a stranger or a charity case lol. I didn't meet them because I'm in a wheelchair. I just know great people (shout out to @bluethegreat for the initial in person introduction to Dot & Q). I never supported them for any benefits like this lol. Their music and shows were enough for me. But this is amazing and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you all and always will. Thank God for you Kendrick and I will continue to pray for you.”
