Dr. Miles V. Lynk publishes the first Black medical journal in the U.S.

<p>Born in Brownsville, Tenn., in 1871, the son of slaves, Dr. <a href="http://www.tennesseehistory.com/class/Lynk.htm" target="_blank">Miles V. Lynk</a> attended the historically Black Meharry Medical College in Nashville and became the first African-American doctor to practice in Madison County, Tenn. At the age of 21, he established <i>The Medical and Surgical Observer</i>, the first national medical journal for Black physicians. Dr. Lynk died in Memphis in 1957.<br>
