A Boston teenager went viral after crocheting a Zendaya-inspired prom dress in just three days. 

During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Sarah Akinbuwa, 18, said that she was invited to someone else's prom as a date, with only four days to prepare. “I had to make a dress by hand," she told the publication.

Akinbuwa garnered nearly 26 million views on a video posted to her TikTok account, showing the behind-the-scenes process of herself creating the look, which came with a crochet bag to match. "My friends loved the dress and I got tons of compliments,” she told PEOPLE.

The dress was inspired by a pink strapless gown designed by Valentino Haute Couture and worn by Zendaya at the 2023 SAG Awards.

Akinbuwa revealed that she has been crocheting since I was 12 and usually makes custom orders for her friends, family members, and social media followers.
