Michelle Obama Won’t Go Into Politics Because Of Her Daughters
“I was so glad when we got out of the White House,” Obama shared her feelings following the end of her husband, President Obama’s second term in 2017.
During the conversation, Michelle Obama expressed worries about daughters Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23. ‘turning up on Page Six’ while in the White House, Page Six reported.
“I wanted them to have the freedom of not having the eyes of the world on them,” Obama told the podcast host. “They still are dealing with paparazzi and being who they are and trying to carve out their own identity.”
Due to Obama’s high approval rating while serving as First Lady, as well as her enduring popularity outside of the White House, the trained lawyer has been asked many times if she would consider going into politics.
“When people ask me, would I ever run [for office], the answer is no,” Obama said. “{People} have absolutely no idea the sacrifice that your kids make when your parents are in that role.”
Obama has spoken previously about how much of a strain the eight years her family spent in the white was.
“Not only am I not interested in politics in that way but the thought of putting my girls back into that spotlight when they are just now establishing themselves — we’ve done enough.”
She ended the topic by saying, “They’ve already served their time—It would be unthinkable. Nope.”
Like their parents, Sasha and Malia were intensely scrutinized while in the White House. In 2014, a GOP staffer resigned after making inflammatory comments about their demeanor and clothing during a Thanksgiving address.
Elizabeth Lauten, a former communications director for Rep. Steve Fincher, R-Tenn., posted on Facebook, said: "Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar."
Despite being widely beloved, former presidential first lady Michelle Obama is not interested in pursuing politics or fame.
She explained why during a recent appearance on Kylie Kelce’s “Not Gonna Lie” podcast.
Currently Sasha and Malia are seemingly living their best lives as young adults and have largely stayed out of the spotlight besides the occasional paparazzi picture capturing the two.
