Meghan Markle Talks 'Time's Up' & #MeToo, Plus The 90s Girl Group Set To Perform At Royal Wedding
Meghan Markle may not officially be a royal yet, but sis already has plans to make moves in support of women’s rights. The bride-to-be made her official debut alongside her fiancé Prince Harry, Prince William and Kate Middleton on Monday (Feb. 26) at an event highlighting The Royal Foundation and addressed the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements.
“I hear a lot of people speaking about girls’ empowerment and women’s empowerment — you will hear people saying they are helping women find their voices,” said the former Suits actress. “I fundamentally disagree with that because women don’t need to find their voices, they need to be empowered to use it and people need to be urged to listen.
“Right now with so many campaigns like MeToo and Time’s Up there’s no better time to continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people supporting them.”
Meghan already looks close with future sister-in-law, Kate, who was recently criticized for her lack of support for Time’s Up when she wore a green dress with a black sash to the BAFTAs (the British equivalent of the Oscars), instead of all black like most attendees.
To add to Meg’s girl power moves, Mel B AKA Scary Spice spilled the beans on The Real this week that the Spice Girls will be performing at the reception. It may not be a political stride for women everywhere but it’s still pretty dope that the royals 90s nostalgia as much as the rest of us.
