2023 NAACP Image Awards: Meet the Women Dominating the ‘Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series’ Category
The future of writing is female, as the ladies of Hollywood dominate the “Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series” Category for the 2023 NAACP Image Awards airing live on Saturday, February 25th, 2023, at 8:00 PM ET on BET. Nominees include several seasoned writers, including Aisha Muharrar, Ayo Edebiri, Shana Gohd, Brittani Nichols, Karen Joseph Adcock, and Quinta Brunson. Before we reveal who will take home the win, get to know the amazing talent behind some of the most “Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.”
Ayo Edebiri, Shana Gohd – What We do in the Shadows – "Episode 405" (FX)
Producer and The Bear star Ayo Edebiri and writer Shana Gohd teamed up for a hilarious episode of What We Do in the Shadows for an episode titled “Private School.” It follows the vampires as they endure the private school admissions interview process.
Aisha Muharrar – Hacks – "Episode 206" (HBO Max)
Aisha Muharrar co-wrote episode 206 of HBO Max’s Hacks alongside Joe Mande.
The author graduated from Harvard University with a degree in English and American Literature and Language and has worked on several other projects, including The Good Place and Parks and Recreation.
Quinta Brunson – Abbott Elementary – "Development Day" (ABC)
Hollywood’s rising star Quinta Brunson is on fire thanks to her series Abbott Elementary. Burnson is the brains behind the first episode of season two, "Development Day.”
It follows the teachers at Abbott Elementary as they return for development week, a time to prepare for the upcoming year. Janine, played by the show creator, is determined to start the year off right and leave her problems at home.

Brittani Nichols – Abbott Elementary – "Student Transfer" (ABC)
Abbott Elementary has some of the funniest people in their writer’s room, and it shows. Filmmaker and producer Brittani Nichols stepped in as a writer for an episode titled "Student Transfer.” After a negative teacher review, Janine gets a boost of confidence when a student gets transferred from Melissa’s class into hers, who’s a troublemaker/wildcard named Courtney. Meanwhile, Jacob tries to forge a friendship with an uninterested Greg.
Karen Joseph Adcock – The Bear – "Episode 105" (FX)
Karen Joseph Adcock penned an explosive episode titled “Sheridan” for FX’s critically acclaimed series The Bear. However, Adcock has also worked on several other successful television series, including the animated series Tuca & Bertie, BoJack Horseman, and Donald Glover’s Atlanta.
