Mariah Carey Responds to Nick Cannon's "Divorce Papers" Freestyle
Nick Cannon has been talking — and rapping — about his divorce quite a bit lately, and now it seems his ex Mariah Carey is starting to get annoyed.
Nick released his freestyle rap "Divorce Papers" on Thursday, in which he indicates behind-the-scenes drama with lines like, "And now I can't see my kids 'cause the government sucks," and "It's f***ed up that the time you spend with your own kids is called visitation."
This is a far cry from the displays of solidarity we've seen from the actor-rapper and his pop icon ex since they announced their split — to the point that even Mimi is confused. One source close to TMZ says that Carey is not taking the song very well at all, considering the fact that she has never denied him rights to see their twin children.
Cannon spoke to Genius about saying goodbye to his daughter, Monroe. "There is nothing more painful than parting with or having to drop your children off. We try to be strong for them but sometimes emotion can overwhelm you."
As for the infamous divorce papers, that have yet to be signed nearly 2 years after the divorce has been filed? The source told TMZ that Carey believes Cannon is being manipulated by his legal team, because the two former couple truly have no hard feelings against one another.
Cannon told Genius, “I named the song ‘Divorce Papers’ to throw it back in everyones face,” he said. “The media made up a lie that I was holding up the process saying I wouldn’t sign the divorce papers. So I was like, ‘You want 'Divorce Papers’ well here you go!‘ The lawyers line was also me releasing a little frustration at the attorneys on both sides because lawyers always think they control the clients and they cause most of the friction especially since my ex and I get along. So ultimately the writing process was and continues to be therapeutic for me.”
Take a listen to his emotional song here:
In "Divorce Papers" Nick raps, "It's been 2 years and I'm the one that's been waiting." It appears he's talking about getting divorced, but it is reportedly Mariah and her lawyer who have been pressing Nick to sign the documents for months.
This situation is getting more confusing by the day, but as Nick raps at the end of his song, "Man, f*** it. Let's sign the papers."
Hopefully this will be resolved soon, and the two can continue to move on from their past.
