A Milli!: Lil Wayne Is Set To Release Limited Edition 'Tha Carter V' Merch
After announcing the release of his long-awaited album, Tha Carter V, Lil Wayne is now collaborating with 14 influential designers on a limited collection of merchandise that will be released over the next nine days.
The album will be released Friday (September 28), however, the first capsule dropped yesterday at 5 p.m., by Heron Preston, and the second today, by Cactus Plant Flea.
In an interview with Highsnobiety, Heron Preston said, “I wanted to do an airbrush theme that was very unique to the South where he’s from. One of the first directions I started to take was his lyric that I can’t really get out of my head: ‘What’s a goon to a goblin?’ That was one of his most famous lines. Then I went looking for portraits of him, because I wanted to have his face very present on the T-shirt—not just the lyrics—to celebrate him as a person. I looked for amateur airbrush artists, and I found a bunch of them on Etsy. I didn’t want something that was super polished or professional; I wanted to capture that amateur skill level—which is the same kind of skill level that I saw when looking at old airbrush artwork back in the ‘90s.”
Lil Wayne is an icon in music and fashion, being one of the first rappers to infuse hip-hop and the skateboard culture, so we’re excited to learn of the other designers he partnered with for this collaboration.
Each design is only available for 24 hours, with a new collab being revealed every day. So if you want to get your hands on the one-of-a-kind pieces, hurry to the website.
