'Billions' and 'David Makes Man' Actor Akili McDowell Charged with Murder

The 21-year-old is being held on a $400,000 bond.

Actor Akili McDowell, best known for his appearances on shows such as “David Makes Man,” has been charged with murder in connection to the July shooting death of a man in the parking lot of a Houston apartment complex. 

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, The 21-year-old suspect allegedly shot and killed Cesar Peralta, 20, on July 20 at the Thorntree Apartments near Uvalde and then took off from the scene, ABC13 local news reports. 

Investigators suspect that Peralta visited the apartments to purchase drugs from McDowell, who locals referred to as "the weed man.”

“The defendant was observed engaging in a conversation with the complainant. They ended up in a fistfight, after which the defendant drew a pistol and fired a single shot. As the complainant tried to get to his car, the defendant shot him multiple times,” the prosecutor explained during McDowell's initial court appearance.

A witness, who chose to remain anonymous, reported hearing the gunshots and then witnessing the “Billions” actor fleeing the scene at high speed.

McDowell is being held in the Harris County jail on a $400,000 bond. He informed the court of his financial difficulties and has been appointed a public defender.
