Ledisi Reveals How She Cares for Her Locs

The singer's most important tip: "Let your hair do what it wants to do."

Ledisi has some of the lushest locs on the block and she's not afraid to change up her hairstyle. In a recent interview with MadameNoire.com, the singer revealed how she cares for her locs and what products are in her hair-care arsenal.

"I have this aloe concoction that my mom's next door neighbor has from New Orleans. I don't know what she put in it, but I know aloe is in it and that helps," she said before adding that she loves using Carol's Daughter and Design Essentials' natural products on her locs.

The singer also stressed the importance of giving your hair a break from all the products and heat, which can lead to damage and dullness.

"I just let my hair be free and wear it down," she said. "Sometimes I wear it in an updo, which is great, but sometimes it's good to when you're off, let your hair do what it wants to do. And give it a breather. That's why it's growing so…like a lion."

In addition, Ledisi commented on how women get too wrapped up in their hair and while it's fun to style it and change up your do, it's also good to remember that it doesn't define who we are.

"We put too much importance on the hair. It's good to get your attention that way, but I'm the face, I'm the voice, I'm Ledisi. Don't ever forget who you are on the inside. Hair is just an accessory to me, it's an addition to your personality so I don't put too much emphasis on it 'cause I can't wait to cut and ya'll be mad so I don't put too much on the hair."

"But when I wear I usually wear it free-form or I'll wear it up. It depends on what I'm wearing and how classy I want to be, how wild I want to be, it's a form of expression for me. But I don't get into what the industry thinks. I just be Ledisi and it seems to work," she adds.
