Halle Berry And Lena Waithe Team Up To Executive Produce New 'Boomerang' BET Series
More than 26 years after achieving her big movie break in Boomerang, Halle Berry has signed on to executive produce a follow-up to the iconic film for BET, and accomplished producer Lena Waithe is joining her for the ride in the same capacity.
Berry and Waithe, Oscar and Emmy winners, respectively, will both serve as executive producers on the half-hour BET Networks and Paramount Television-produced series, which will run for 10 episodes.
In a statement, Berry sang her co-executive producer's praises and touched on what it means to her to bring this story to the small screen.
"I'm thrilled to team up with Lena on this project as she is without a doubt a leading voice of her generation and a trail blazer in her own right," she said. "I'm truly excited to be a part of bringing this iconic and beloved film to the small screen."
Fans of the original film should not misconstrue this new project as a reboot, as Berry noted that it is, rather, "a continuation of the original story."
"There's no point in trying to remake a classic," she added. "It can't be done. So we want to create something fresh that speaks to a new generation. We hope people will come to the show with an open mind and ready to embrace the new world we've created."
Boomerang is slated to air in 2019 on BET.
