Doja Cat Not A Fan Of 'Disrespectful' Britney Spears Shaved Head Comparisons
With 16 Grammy nominations, including one this year for Record of the Year with "Woman," Doja Cat is one of the industry's most successful female rappers. She is also known for her eclectic music and fashion style. But, one of her looks has gotten some comparisons that the 27-year-old rapper is not a fan of.
She shaved her head and eyebrows in August of last year and fans questioned if the abrupt change meant that she was having emotional challenges comparing the look to 2007 when Britney Spears shaved her head amid a mental health crisis.
“It’s so incredibly disrespectful for people to be minimizing what Britney went through and make a joke out of something that was very serious and a big deal in her life. Every time I see a comment like that, I can’t compute what’s happening, other than it’s just an awful thing,” Doja told Variety.
“But other than that, when I shaved my eyebrows off and I shaved my head, I remember thinking, ‘Get this shit off of me,’ because I needed to change something,” she said “I wasn’t working out and wasn’t really taking care of myself in the way that I wanted to. I was like, ‘I need to do something,’ so I just chopped it all off. And I could see the shape of my head. I could see my whole face. I can see my ears, now that I don’t have a wig that’s glued to my forehead.”
Fans have since learned to love the look which Doja is currently rocking, dyed two different colors. She called the look "the best choice I’ve ever made," saying, "I’ve never felt more beautiful."
In the new article, Doja Cat's creative director Brett Alan Nelson added,“She obviously feels beautiful with her buzzed head, and is saying, ‘I don’t need to be the world’s idea of what beauty is.’ Especially where we live now in 2023, everybody has a very distorted idea of what beauty is, with all the plastic surgery and crazy contouring of makeup. People think that beauty is an enhanced ass, fake boobs and long, beautiful playboy hair. But if she feels beautiful and strong and independent with her buzzed head — let’s go!”
