Raheem DeVaughn Gets Hometown Tribute

The Washington, D.C. native will have a day named in his honor.

Neo-soul singer Raheem DeVaughn will be honored by the city of Washington, D.C. on his 36th birthday tomorrow [May 5].

D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray will present DeVaughn with a key to the nation’s capitol in a ceremony on the steps of the Wilson Building.

“I am humbled and truly honored to be the recipient of The Key to the City and my own day by the District of Columbia,” DeVaughn said graciously. “I am very thankful to Washington, D.C. for their loyalty and support.”

DeVaughn has served as the CDC HIV/AIDS Prevention Celebrity Partner, working to educate people on the HIV/AIDS problem in D.C. and has spent countless hours mentoring and speaking to children and teens in various youth organizations.

The three-time Grammy nominee has also volunteered with the National Network to End Domestic Violence and for the Annual Safeway Feast of Sharing Thanksgiving Celebration.

Mayor Gray will also make a declaration that May 5 in the District will now be known as Raheem DeVaughn Day.
