Kerry Washington Explains Why Sex Scenes Are So Awkward
We might live for those steamy scenes between Olivia Pope and President Grant on Scandal, but Kerry Washington is here to clear the air about any kind of chemistry that might exist between the married star and her co-stars. In her interview with Allure magazine, in which she covered the November issue sans makeup, Washington said that it's important to respect the off-screen relationships that the actors value and make sure you don't overstep your bounds.
"Particularly with a show like ours, where people are so invested in the chemistry, you just learn to be careful, because people's real relationships in life are important. I so respect and admire [Tony Goldwyn's] wife and him and their family, and he feels the same way about mine. And so you learn to be careful about how you say things," she said.
Washington also reiterated her stance that filming sex scenes are just downright awkward and even more so now that she's married to Nnamdi Asomugha.
"They're hard to do. You're doing things that you're supposed to do with only certain people in your life. Because this is not your real partner in life, doing that is awkward. And then doing it in a room full of people is awkward," she said.
