DJ Bonics Adopts Philadelphia Versus Everybody Attitude for Thre3style Competition
It’s been a long time since Philly’s “City of Brotherly Love” slogan served as more than the nucleus of irony, but despite the Iladelph’s hostility fueled sports fans (GQ once ranked the Phillies and the Eagles and the Phillies America’s No. 1 and No. 2 worst fan bases, respectively), DJ Bonics reps his hometown artists to the fullest.
“Some of my biggest inspirations were the local guys in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia,” Bonics proudly proclaimed. “DJ Q-Bert, DJ Craze, DJ Jazzy Jeff. I’ll put the DJs and producers from these cities against the world,” he added.
After taking home the crown at the Pittsburgh qualifier the Taylor Gang turntablist headed to Arizona to face off against the other regional champs in hopes of bringing the crown back to Pennsylvania.
When it comes to his sonic stylings, Bonics keeps the hip hop heavyweights in constant rotation.
“I really liked the J. Cole and Kendrick [Lamar] albums, still listening to D'Angelo, too, and definitely that new Tuxedo album,” noted Bonics, who went on to reveal his secret weapons for bringing a packed house to its feet.
“Some of those tracks off the Drake album definitely are the best in the club,” Bonics professed. “But we know 'IDFWU' was definitely the big club banger of last year," he added.
