Lupita Nyong'o Shares Sweet Birthday Message for Boyfriend Selema Masekela
Actress Lupita Nyong'o shared a lovely message to her boyfriend, Selema Masekela, in honor of his birthday this week.
She shared the message just hours after posting a tribute to her friend and co-star Chadwick Boseman, who died on August 28, 2020—which is also Masekela's birthday.
She mourned Boseman's passing in her tribute and later celebrated her relationship with Masekela.
"And THEN... the Universe saw it fit to bring this Sunshine Human into my orbit, and this day marks his introduction to life," the Us actress wrote in a caption to her post. Set to the Yung Wylin' song "Good Energy," her post shows Masekela dancing as well as playful photos of the two.
"Every day is full of #goodenergy and reasons to dance with @selema as my favorite playmate. Happy Birthday, mi amor!" Nyong'o added.
Masekela commented on Nyong'o's post, writing: "sneaky, mi amor. luckiest man alive. my heart is smiling wide."
Masekela is a television host, sports commentator, actor, and singer who turned 52 on August 28. He is the son of South African jazz legend Hugh Masekela.
He and Lupita Nyong'o went public with their relationship last December. It's not clear when they began dating. However, PEOPLE notes that Masekela tweeted about sitting behind her on a plane in 2016 and asked the Twitterverse for help with an opening line.
In sharing that she and Masekela were a couple in December, Nyong'o wrote, "We just click! @selema #thisismylove #nuffsaid," In the post, they changed outfits to the viral song, "The King's Affirmation" by Iniko and Reuel Williams.
