Mike Hollins, Who Survived UVA Mass Shooting, Is ‘Doing Well’ After Second Surgery

Accused gunman Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. faces three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of three football players.

University of Virginia running back Mike Hollins, who survived the Nov. 13 mass shooting near a campus parking garage, was in good condition on Tuesday morning (Nov. 15), Sports Illustrated reports.

A spokesperson for Hollins’ family told SI reporter Ross Dellenger that the student athlete was removed from a ventilator and was “doing well” after a second surgery.

He was in critical condition after a suspected lone gunman shot him in the back and suffered a wound to the abdomen where the bullet exited. He was on a ventilator Sunday night after emergency surgery. On Tuesday, he underwent a second procedure to check for damage to his abdominal cavity and kidneys.

Before the second surgery, his mother Brenda Hollins asked for prayers.

“Family, Mike will be going in for his 2nd surgery at 8am. Keep praying!!! And please keep praying for all of the families that are going through this horrific tragedy,” she tweeted.

Hollins and a female student reportedly in stable condition were the two survivors of the attack by accused gunman Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. He allegedly killed three UVA football players: Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D'Sean Perry.

On Monday (Nov. 14), Charlottesville police announced Jones' arrest. Authorities charged him with three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of using a handgun in the alleged commission of a felon.
