Report: Justin Bieber Caught Speeding Before DUI Arrest
Justin Bieber was speeding through Miami hours before his first of two arrests last month, reports TMZ.
Full GPS data taken from the 19-year-old Canadian singer's rented yellow Lamborghini shows that he was going as fast as 136 mph on his way to a Miami nightclub.
Bieber arrived at the night spot at approximately 2:27 a.m. and stayed for roughly an hour before he was pulled over by police. At the time, the teen was actually going below the speed limit, which suggests that cops waited to catch him. Authorities claim Bieber was also drag racing.
The "Heartbreaker" crooner was arrested for DUI, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license on Jan. 23. Although his intoxication level was below the legal limit, he allegedly admitted to smoking weed and taking pills. A toxicology report confirmed marijuana and Xanax in his system.
Last week, the Miami Beach Police Department addressed allegations of inconsistencies in Bieber's arrest report, as well as the drag racing issue. "What the public has to understand is that the officer described his actions as drag racing, but he was not charged with drag racing," said Miami Beach Police Chief Ray Martinez. "This is a residential street, Pine Tree Drive, where the speed limit is 30 miles an hour, and if you can imagine, at 4 a.m. in the morning, a Lamborghini and a Ferrari going from zero to 40, opening up those engines. That's what drew the officers' attention to their actions."
Martinez went on to explain that an officer's notation said Bieber smelled like booze, despite having a 0.014 blood alcohol level. "If you just consume a beer, or if you happen to spill some of that beer on your clothing or in the car, you could smell that as you approach," he said.
Bieber has pleaded not guilty to the charges and will go to trial March 3.
