Meagan Good Reveals Her Dream Role Is To Play Eartha Kitt In A Biopic

The actress also said that she would like to see a sequel to the classic hit, ‘Eve’s Bayou.’

Meagan Good has been slaying the big and small screen for nearly 20 years, but she has a dream role – the legendary Eartha Kitt.

In an interview on SiriusXM Urban View’s The Clay Cane Show, the star of Harlem was asked about her dream role and she said Eartha Kitt, even giving an impression of a viral clip that is frequently seen on social media. “I loved how she [Eartha Kitt] said, ‘Compromise, compromise for what? For what? For who?’ I get that because to me, I just feel like when someone genuinely loves you – I think compromise is a natural thing – but I don't think it's something that you should be asked to do. I think it should be an authentic thing that you want to do that is not expected of you. It just happens naturally.”

She continued, “I'm a big believer of just letting people be exactly who they are, the fullness of their authenticity. I think that's because that's what I desire as well, but I think everybody deserves that. And so I really identify with a lot of Eartha Kitt’s ideals.” Good also said at one point she wanted to portray Aaliyah or Whitney Houston in biopics.

Eartha Kitt is a legendary performer and activist who was born in the deep poverty of South Carolina in 1927. After enduring a horrific childhood, she rose to fame in the 1950s and 1960s as a singer, known for her distinctive voice and sensual style. In addition to her music career, Kitt was an accomplished actress, appearing in Anna Lucasta, St. Louis Blues and, most famously, playing Catwoman in the 1960s television series Batman. In 1991, she also played Lady Eloise in the classic Boomerang.

Kitt was also a passionate activist. She famously spoke out against the Vietnam War at a White House luncheon in 1968, which led to her being “blacklisted” in the U.S. for several years. Kitt passed away from colon cancer on December 25, 2008, at the age of 81.

Good also added that she would be open to a sequel to 1997’s Eve’s Bayou. She has even talked about the possibility of a sequel with her co-star Jurnee Smollett.  “We've talked about it a lot. But I think sometimes when something is so special, I don't know if it's a good idea to touch it. But that would be up to Miss Kasi [Lemmons]. If she ever said she wanted to do it, I think all of us would jump on board.”

Eve's Bayou was directed by Kasi Lemmons. Set in Louisiana in the 1960s, the story revolves around the Batiste family, particularly 10-year-old Eve, who is coming of age and learning about her family's dark secrets. The film explores themes of family, love, betrayal, and mysticism, as Eve navigates her relationships with her parents and siblings, and tries to understand the events that have been kept hidden from her. The film features a talented cast, including Meagan Good, Jurnee Smollett, Lynn Whitfield, Debbi Morgan, Samuel L. Jackson, and the late Diahann Carroll, and was well-received by critics for its beautiful cinematography and powerful performances.
