During a protest in Baton Rouge on Saturday night in honor of Alton Sterling, Black Lives Matter leader and activist DeRay Mckesson and two journalists were arrested. DeRay live streamed the encounter on Periscope while being taken into custody.

As reported by the Washington Post, Mckesson has been released Sunday afternoon after being taken into police custody following a protest Saturday night in Baton Rouge. Mckesson was among 120 people arrested last night (July 9), with at least 100 others being detained in St. Paul, Minn.

According to BuzzFeed News, the former Baltimore mayoral candidate was arrested while walking along the street. He said, prior to being taken into custody, police were "provoking" protesters, even going as far as driving on the opposite side of the road, aiming their lights at the crowd.

"The police of Baton Rouge have been truly awful today," he said in a video. "The police have been violent tonight. The protestors have not."

During the recording, an officer, fully uniformed, can be heard telling the activist that he would put him in handcuffs if he walked on the road. DeRay then pointed his device at the road, pointing on that there was no sidewalk.

While walking towards a patrol car with his camera aimed at the officers, DeRay can be heard being told he is under arrest.

"Don't fight me, don't fight me," the officers said. 

"I'm under arrest, y'all!" DeRay yelled.
