Report: Bisexual NFL Player Upset With Michael Sam
Michael Sam became the first openly gay player to be drafted in the NFL last year, but his recent candor about the existence of other gay players in the league has one player quite upset.
A current NFL player, who identifies himself as bisexual, spoke to TMZ Sports under the condition of anonymity about Sam's claim that there are other gay players in the league.
The player was especially offended by Sam telling the Fort Worth Star-Telegram last week that he respects the NFL players that called him and told him they're gay, but that they do not have the same courage as he did to come out.
"As a bisexual man, I just feel like Michael Sam does not speak for all gay men," the player said. "He has his own opinion...but don't say that we don't have the courage to come out. It's totally wrong. Just speak for yourself. No one else. It's no one's business what my sexuality is. You should like me for me...not for who I choose to be with."
The player argued that the league isn't ready to face the issue of openly gay men playing football.
"I feel the NFL isn't ready for people to be open about it," the player continued. "Or the general managers for that matter."
Sam, a current contestant on ABC's Dancing With the Stars, continues his quest to make an NFL team. The defensive end most recently competed in the league's veteran combine last week. One scout told CBS Sports that Sam's workout "was bad" and that he simply isn't good enough to play in the NFL, adding that "nobody cares" that he's gay and that "it's about him as a player."
