Tina Turner Granted Swiss Citizenship

The iconic singer says goodbye to America and hello to Switzerland.

Tina Turner is saying so long to America for good. TMZ broke the news earlier today that the “Proud Mary” singer, who has resided in Switzerland since the mid-'90s, has decided to renounce her U.S. citizenship and permanently become a Swiss citizen. Turner was born in Nutbush, Tennessee, but has been living in the Zurich suburb of Kuesnacht for some time now.

"I'm very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here. ... I cannot imagine a better place to live," Turner told German newspaper Blick.

According to a local Swiss newspaper, the local council has already granted Tuner their approval for her citizenship. Now, she is just waiting for state and federal authorities to make it official.

Turner's rep told the paper that Turner wanted to "clarify her situation."
