Trump Unleashes Twitter Attack On Al Sharpton, Calling Him A 'Con Man' Who 'Hates Whites & Cops'

The president also continued to go after Rep. Elijah Cummings and the city of Baltimore.

In the middle of his tirade against Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), President Donald Trump unleashed a new attack on activist Al Sharpton for defending the city of Baltimore.

Early Monday morning, Trump started a Twitter thread about Sharpton, calling him a “con man” who hates white cops.

Trump reposted a tweet from Sharpton that included a picture of him on an escalator at the airport and the caption, “Arrived in DC from Atlanta, headed to Baltimore. Long day but can’t stop.”

  • “I have known Al for 25 years. Went to fights with him & Don King, always got along well. He ‘loved Trump!’ He would ask me for favors often. Al is a con man, a troublemaker, always looking for a score. Just doing his thing. Must have intimidated Comcast/NBC. Hates Whites & Cops!” Trump tweeted

Trump then went on to say, “Al Sharpton would always ask me to go to his events. He would say, ‘it’s a personal favor to me.’ Seldom, but sometimes, I would go. It was fine. He came to my office in T.T. during the presidential campaign to apologize for the way he was talking about me. Just a conman at work!”

Throughout Trump’s presidency, Sharpton, who spoke out against the president’s divisive and racist rhetoric during the campaign, has criticized Trump.

After being the subject of Trump’s latest string of racist tweets, Sharpton appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe wherein he said Trump begged for his approval after winning the election.

“He was president-elect,” Sharpton said, “and he wanted me to come meet with him at Mar-A-Lago. I said, ‘I will only meet with you if I can bring other leaders of national civil rights organizations. [Trump said,] ‘No, Al, I just know you, let’s meet and let’s talk.'”

“Why would you want, as president-elect of the United States, to meet with a troublemaker and a con man?” Sharpton said. “That’s who he is, and we know who he is. The question is, what are we going to do about it?”

In addition to his wild attacks on Sharpton, Trump continued targeting Cummings and the city of Baltimore.

  • “Baltimore, under the leadership of Elijah Cummings, has the worst Crime Statistics in the Nation. 25 years of all talk, no action!” Trump wrote Monday. “So tired of listening to the same old Bull... Next, Reverend Al will show up to complain & protest. Nothing will get done for the people in need. Sad!

“Crazy Bernie Sanders recently equated the City of Baltimore to a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY! Based on that statement, I assume that Bernie must now be labeled a Racist, just as a Republican would if he used that term and standard! The fact is, Baltimore can be brought back, maybe.....” he tweeted.

“....even to new heights of success and glory, but not with King Elijah and that crew. When the leaders of Baltimore want to see the City rise again, I am in a very beautiful oval shaped office waiting for your call!” he concluded.

Sharpton appeared in Baltimore on Monday alongside former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. The two held a press conference to “address Trump’s remarks & bi-partisan outrage in the black community,” as well as host a discussion on “Reversing the Economic Erosion of Home Ownership in Black Communities.”

"He doesn’t refer to any of his other opponents or critics as infested," Sharpton said standing outside New Shiloh Baptist Church in West Baltimore. "He does not attack their districts. He attacks Nancy Pelosi, he attacks Chuck Schumer, he attacks other whites. But he never says that their districts or their states are places that no human being wants to live."

Sharpton also said "Cummings’ district is the most well educated and middle-class aspiring district of Blacks in this country" and Trump "attacks everybody."

"I know Donald Trump, he's not mature enough to take criticism," Sharpton said. "He can't help it. He's like a child. Somebody say something, he reacts. He's thin-skinned and not really mature in that way."
