U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was reportedly found dead today at a luxury resort in Texas.

Justice Scalia was the longest serving justice on the Court, serving from 1986 until his death. A staunch conservative, some of Scalia’s most controversial arguments include his belief that there is no constitutional right to abortion, and his opposition to affirmative action.

Scalia’s body was reportedly found in his room when after he did not appear for breakfast during his hunting trip at the Cibolo Creek Ranch.

San Antonio District Judge Fred Biery said he was one of the first people notified of Scalia’s death. “I was told this morning…My reaction is that it’s very unfortunate," he says. "It’s unfortunate with any death, and politically in the presidential cycle we’re in, my educated guess is nothing will happen before the next president is elected.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbot also released a statement calling Scalia an “unwavering defender of the written Constitution.” Adding, “I extend our deepest condolences to his family, and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”

Scalia was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan, and was 79 at the time of his death.
