Donatella Versace sat down with Nicki Minaj for an interview that will appear in the December/January issue of Interview magazine and the designer recalled how one of their biggest supporters, The Notorious B.I.G, helped influence the luxury brand.
Biggie, who was a friend of the designer, was known for wearing Versace and frequented her shows to get a first look at her new designs. “I think Biggie was amazing. He came to my shows in Paris many times, and we’d see each other often,” Versace recalled. “I loved what he was doing and how he was giving people a way to know about Versace.”
The rapper shouted out the Italian fashion label often in his hits like “One More Chance” and “Hypnotize” and Donatella also credits him for spreading brand awareness. “I do think he was giving people a way to know about Versace — I do think a lot of people started to know about Versace because of him.”
