Vanity, '80s Pop Star, Passes Away
Vanity, the lead singer of popular '80s girl group Vanity 6, has died. According to reports, she has been battling kidney failure and abdonimal illness for a number of years. She was 57.
TMZ reports that the singer, whose real name was Denise Katrina Matthews, died while being treated in a Fremont, California hospital on Monday.
Just a few months ago, the singer set up a GoFundMe page where she shared that she had been diagnosed with sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis — an inflammation of the small intestines.
In addition to the conditions that cased her demise, the singer also battled crack addiction back in the '90s, which led to a 1994 overdose that caused her kidneys to fail. Since then, the singer left the Hollywood limelight altogther, quit drugs and became a born-again Christian.
Leading to her death, she was an active member of her local church, where she is said to have attended every Saturday evening.
