Nas Posted This Touching Message Honoring Bushwick Bill And His Legacy
As reported by official reps of Geto Boys' Bushwick Bill, the rapper and co-founder of the iconic hip-hop group has lost his battle against pancreatic cancer on Sunday (June 9).
The rapper's passing was confirmed in a statement provided to the public. Before his passing, his family and close friends were calling for prayer over the weekend after Bill’s health took a turn for the worse. His son, Javon, reportedly shared with TMZ that Bill's last words to him were "I will love you forever."
His publicist, Dawn P., shared that Bushwick Bill passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at night around 9:35 p.m.
She also shared that the family is looking into doing a public memorial at a later date and thanked supporters for their outpouring of condolences.
In May, the rapper shocked fans and industry peers after he told TMZ that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in February. Although he was perturbed by the news himself, he was optimistic that his health would turn around, sharing that he was undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Bill — born Richard Shaw — was working on new music and planning an upcoming tour with Willie D and Scarface before the diagnosis sidelined his plans.
Hip-hop heavyweights have been hit hard by the sudden news after conflicting reports that he had passed on Saturday. Busta Rhymes, Juicy J, Bun B, Biz Markie and more immediately took to social media to lend their condolences and cherish their memories with the iconic rapper with salutes to his legacy.
