Lena Waithe just made history at The Emmys for being the first African American woman to win an award for comedy writing.

Perhaps more impressive than her win however was the speech she delivered after receiving the hardware. The Master Of None star showed why she’s special and gave inspiration to other young black women who hope one day to follow in her footsteps.

“I see each and every one of you. The things that make us different, those are our super powers. Every day when you walk out the door and put on your imaginary cape and go out there and conquer the world because the world would not be as beautiful as it is if we weren't in it,” she said to the audience.

“And for everybody out there that showed so much love, thank you for embracing us, a little Indian boy from South Carolina and black girl in the southtown of Chicago. We appreciate it more than you could ever know.”

Oh yeah, and she started her speech with a Maxine Waters-ism by reclaiming her time after the audience wouldn’t stop applauding. GOAT status.
