After Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum made history by becoming the first Black candidate to secure the Democratic primary slot in Florida's gubernatorial race, Donald Trump immediately attacked him on Twitter. However, Gillum was quick to respond and let the president to come correct when firing a tweet. 

Gillum, who was backed by Senator Bernie Sanders, came through with an upset victory in the primary election on Tuesday. In the fall, Gillum will face GOP Rep. Ron DeSantis, who was endorsed by Trump.

In an attack against Gillum, Trump tweeted that Gillum was a "failed Socialist Mayor."

Despite Trump's wild tweet, Gillum appeared unbothered and rejoiced in his surprising victory.

"Whoever thought this was possible?" Gillum asked the crowd after winning the primary. "I sincerely believe what will deliver us victory in November is that there are everyday hard working people in the state who believe that they deserve a voice in our government, too."

Gillum also took a moment to clap back at Trump's tweet, and he even tagged the president. 

On Wednesday before the primaries, Gillum appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" to talk about his health care and employment policies instead of just roasting Trump. 

"We got to talk to Floridians. And, largely, Floridians who have chosen not to participate in this political process because they don't believe in it anymore. Talking about Donald Trump and reminding folks of how bad he is and how unqualified he is for the job that he holds doesn't do anything to ensure that they're able to make ends meet," Gillum said.
