Beloved ’General Hospital’ Star Sonya Eddy Dead At 55
Fans of General Hospital got the shocking news that a member of the cast has suddenly passed away. Actress Sonya Eddy, who played Epiphany Johnson on the daytime soap from 2006 to 2020, died yesterday (Dec. 20). She was 55-years old.
Oscar winner Octavia Spencer announced the news in a touching Instagram post, "My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night," Spencer captioned a headshot of Eddy. "The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her."
The cause of death has not been revealed.
General Hospital Executive Producer Frank Valentini took to Instagram to express the casts’ reaction to the news. “I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible @sonyaeddy. I truly loved her, not only as an actress, but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurse’s station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set,” posted Valentini. Her castmates have also taken to social media to express their sympathy to her loved ones.

Eddy’s film and television credits date back to 1995 and include Barbershop, Daddy Daycare, Matchstick Men, Bad News Bears, The Perfect Game, and Will Smith’s Seven Pounds.
However, General Hospital fans will remember Eddy's talents as an actress and singer. She often sang during the show's annual "Nurse's Ball" event and her character was just developing towards a new story arch where Epiphany, who worked as a nurse for years, decided to study to become a doctor.
