Sparring and Hand Skills Are Key for Timothy Bradley

The welterweight title holder trains hard to counteract Manny Pacquiao's famous left punch.

Timothy Bradley was a conundrum of emotions on Tuesday after an intense training session in preparation for Manny Pacquiao's world-famous left. Feeling tired and anxious yet confident, Bradley checked in with BET.com to talk about his training routines for #PacBradley rematch.

Bradley's been training nonstop for more than six weeks now, and he's currently focusing on his hand coordination and making weight.

“I am trying to focus on hand skills; we are sparring heavy this week,” Bradley told BET.com.

Bradley said that he felt “really sharp” and closer toward his ultimate goal to be in peak performance shape. He and two sparring partners, who train with him three times a week, go round-for-round attempting to mimic what will happen on fight night.

“They try to knock my head off every single week,” Bradley said. “I have one partner that loves to throw the straight left and another one that’s a speedster; he likes to angle out and move all the time.”

But while his concentration is on counteracting what he says are Pacquiao’s only tactics—his sharp left and ability to “dance” around the ring—Bradley is also four pounds away from making weight. “Personally I like to make weight a week before the fight, so that I can go in on the pasta and carbs,” he said.

With “pasta week” on the brain, Bradley is ready to win. As he anticipates the meals his personal chef will make for him next week, he also knows one thing is for sure for fight night on April 12.
“Either his family is going to eat, or mine,” Bradley said matter-of-factly, “And my family for damn sure is going to eat.”

Log on to BET.com's Sports section each week as we will be checking in with Timothy Bradley on his road to #PacBradley. Pacquiao vs. Bradley 2 takes place Saturday, April 12 live on pay-per-view beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
