Amy Winehouse "Back to Black" Dress Sells for $67,500
The dress Amy Winehouse wore on the cover of her breakthrough album Back to Black was auctioned off for much more than expected. The late British singer's red and white printed chiffon dress, which was designed by Thailand-based designer Disaya, was bought by the Fundacion Museo de la Moda in Chile for 43,200 British pounds (about $67,500) — quadruple its asking price.
Proceeds from the sale will go towards the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity created by the Winehouse family to help young people in need. Winehouse's father, Mitch, attended the auction held by Kerry Taylor Auctions in London.
"We are just over the moon and this is a wonderful start to the foundation," he says.
Winehouse was found dead in her home on July 23 from alcohol poisoning when she was just 27 years old.
