From Covers to Stardom: Ashya Clark on Debut Album 'Lost & Found' and Finding Her Voice
In the R&B landscape, Ashya Clark is a name you need to know.
An exceptionally talented singer-songwriter from Columbus, Georgia, she has garnered acclaim for her sultry vocals by performing incredible covers of songs like Faith Evans’ “Soon as I Get Home” and Silk’s “Meeting in My Bedroom.”
Now signed to the trailblazing independent Rebel Music, Ashya’s powerhouse vocals, and soul-bearing songwriting have put her on the fast track to success and longevity in the music industry. With her unique sound and unstoppable energy, she’s making waves in the music world.
Recently, she released her debut project Lost & Found which is a showcase of her musical gifts that combine the nostalgia of 90s R&B with a modern sound that’s all her own.
Interestingly, Ashyra didn’t believe that a music career was possible although she’s always loved singing. She said that it “just happened.”
“I've been singing since I was two years old. I knew I could sing around maybe like seven or eight. But I never wanted to make this a career. My brother used to always try to make me do music because he does music as well. I always said,’ I can't make music. I can't write.”
“But after going through a breakup with my child's father in 2023. One of the dudes I used to go to high school with started making beats,” she continued. “He asked to make something and I had a lot to talk about.”
As she began to explore her artistry more and more, more opportunities became available to her.
“I ended up making my first song called “Detached,” and I ended up going on this show called “The Debut” hosted by Ivy, Boosie’s daughter. The performance went viral after they posted it and they invited me back,” she explained. “People were paying $400 -$500 to get on this show but they kept inviting me for free.”
“I ran into my manager, Jasinski, and asked if I could perform at an event for him. After that, he just was like, ‘Do you know what you can do?’ Then I just really started to trust him and I let God take over to put me wherever he needed me to be.”
A lover of classic R&B singers, Ashya was influenced by her mother as well as some legendary vocalists.
“First my mom. Whitney Houston, Jazmine Sullivan, Monica, Faith Evans, and Kelly Price. I love powerful singers who don't mind singing. There are a lot of singers that don't believe they have to sing good. All you have to do is make something relatable to the younger generation, and you're good,” she laughed. “But I feel like a lot of people don't realize how many people are missing that kind of singing. I'm just here trying to bring it back.”
“I just saw singing as a hobby. I was just like, you know, people get on here and they just do what they like to do. And I ain't want to just be the person that just sat up and watched everybody else,” she said. “So I'm like, You know what? Let me just start singing. I know I can do that. So wow, it just kind of took off.”
After doing covers on TikTok of Faith Evan’s “Soon as I Get Home” and Silk’s “Meeting in My Bedroom,” Ashya amassed a larger social media following that encouraged her to continue pursuing her craft.
On November 1, Ashya released her debut album Lost & Found. The project explores themes of love, romance, heartbreak, and the challenge of relationships. According to Ashya, the album is a labor of love.
“There were a lot of ups and downs while creating this project. When I first started, I was about to make a 90s EP with the same title. My song ‘Are You Someone?’ was a throwback in the style of the 90s style,” Ashya explained. “But we went in another direction After I got signed, it's been a little rocky.
“Right before I got signed, I made ‘Stay’. I was just sitting in a hotel, and I was like, ‘I hear something.’ I was just looking out the window while the sun was shining. I know I need to write this down before I forget,” she added. “So I created that on my own along with Jason as an engineer Justin Hall aka Trills created that beat for me, and he did ‘Are You Someone?’”
“I also worked with A. Archer who’s another great producer. He's produced for Summer Walker and SZA. He made ‘Only One’. Anytime that I can sit down and connect with the beat, it's going to be magical.”
In promotion of the album, Ashya is looking forward to hitting the road in 2025 so she can perform in front of her fans and gain many more along the way.
“We are planning a tour for me to perform and promote the album. I want to make sure that I can reach more people than those who already know me. A lot of people may know me now, but it doesn't amount to the people who will know me in the future.”
