Carolina Panthers Donate $100,000 In Honor of Emanuel 9
In wake of the tragedy that struck Charleston this week, the Carolina Panthers have set an example of how important unity in the community is.
The NFL team's founder, Jerry Richardson is a native of Spring Hope, North Carolina and established the team 20 years ago to represent both North and South Carolina, which is why the team's training camp happens each year in Spartanburg (South) despite the stadium being in Charlotte (North).
In a heartfelt letter sent to the Mother Emmanuel Hope Fund, Richardson explained that he and the Panthers sent a check for $100,000 to help cover the funeral costs of Rev. Clementa Pinckney, Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr., Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, Cynthia Hurd, Susie Jackson, Tywanza Sanders, Ethel Lance, DePayne Middleton-Doctor, and Myra Thompson with an addition $10,000 to be donated to the church to help memorialize the victims.
And while the healing continues in the hearts of the victims' loved ones and mourners across the globe, this gesture from Richardson and the Panthers sets an example of the love and compassion that we should all have for one another, at all times.
