Ezell Ford's Autopsy Shows Side and Back Gunshot Wounds Were Fatal
More than four months since he was slain by LAPD officers in South Los Angeles, Ezell Ford's autopsy has been released by the Los Angeles County Coroner.
On Aug. 11, the 25-year-old was shot a total of three times, as a bullet struck him in the right side, the right side of his back and in his right arm, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The wounds in his side and back were fatal. A "muzzle imprint" on the skin surrounding the bullet to his back may suggest that it was fired from a close distance.
According to a news release by the LAPD, a struggle between Ford and patrol officers occurred during an “investigative stop” in the Florence neighborhood of South Los Angeles. The statement reports that the struggle “resulted in an officer-involved-shooting.”
Ford, who was described as mentally ill, was reportedly brought to a local hospital where he died.
Despite growing criticism from residents, the city delayed releasing information on his autopsy in order to gather witness accounts from the incident that were not influenced by public information.
The parents of Ford filed a $75 million wrongful death claim against the city in September.
