Mariah Carey Announces Album Release Date
Mariah Carey's fans (aka "lambs") will be happy to hear that she has lots planned for the coming months.
Fresh from debuting her latest single, "You're Mine (Eternal)," at the BET Honors ceremony in Washington, D.C., Saturday (Feb. 8) night, the music diva announced official release dates for the new track and her upcoming studio album. The Art of Letting Go, Carey's fourteenth solo release, will drop May 6 preceded by "You're Mine (Eternal)," due out this Wednesday (Feb. 12).
Similar to how Rick Ross has promoted Mastermind recently, Carey also dropped a video teaser to reveal her LP and single news. The songbird's 2005 smash "We Belong Together" plays during the nearly two-minute clip that points out Carey's accolades, including 200 million records sold worldwide, countless awards, nine platinum albums, chart-topping singles and her legendary five octave range.
The release will be her first under the management of longtime friend Jermaine Dupri. JD signed on to manage Carey after she parted ways with ex-American Idol judge Randy Jackson last year. "We have a bond that surpasses music," the mother of two said in a statement on hiring Dupri. "I am excited about our merger because we have so many innovative ideas that I know will come into fruition."
Last fall, Carey and JD opened up about the process of recording "The Art of Letting Go" single, which was released on Facebook in November 2013. The title track was co-written and co-produced by Rodney Jerkins. "Some people have preconceived feelings about what they want to hear from me musically… but here's the thing, it had to be from the heart and it had to be real," explained Carey. "I think we all really felt something special for this record."
Prior to "The Art of Letting Go," Carey dropped "#Beautiful" featuring Miguel early last year. The love song peaked at No. 15 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart and spawned five remixes.
