Schizophrenic Man Kills 1-Year-Old Daughter And Himself After His Ex Refused to Get Back Together

Terrance Briggs also shot his stepfather and half-brother in a murderous rampage.

A schizophrenic father in Brooklyn killed his 1-year-old daughter, his stepfather, and his half-brother before killing himself after he tried to get back together with his ex.

On Tuesday night, Terrance Briggs, 27, was drinking Hennessy when he decided to call Olivia Callender, the mother of 1-year-old Laylay, and try to reconcile their split, reported the New York Post.

“Life is short,” Briggs reportedly told Callender.

After being kept from seeing Laylay, Briggs had recently begun seeing the infant again.

“He wanted to get back together with her for the baby’s sake,” a high-ranking police source said. “She must have said no. He told her he was depressed because somebody in his family had died.”

After the phone call, Briggs, who was not taking his schizophrenia medication at the time, continued drinking with his brother. Eventually, Briggs’ brother left the Brownsville apartment and the 27-year-old went on a murderous rampage that left Laylay, Briggs, his stepfather Loyd Drain Jr., and his half-brother Loyd Drain III dead.

Then Briggs committed suicide in a bedroom where Laylay’s body was also found.

A neighbor told police she heard about 10 shots coming from the apartment around 1:30 a.m., nearly four hours before the crime scene was discovered Briggs’ mom, Patricia Green.

Green told police Briggs and his stepdad had an ongoing argument, which reached its peak in 2005 when Briggs threatened Drain Jr. with a loaded gun. Briggs also threatened to kill his whole family in the past, sources told the New York Post.

Police have not yet determined a motive for the killing spree.

"We do not have a motive for this incident, but we are working very hard to establish one," NYPD Deputy Chief Michael Kemper said at a press conference. "I can say this, a firearm has been recovered inside the apartment, along with bullets and shell casings."
