Two NBA Players Suing Over Crazy NYC Nightclub Incident
It was one of the wildest off-the-court situations that NBA players have ever been caught up in.
And now, exactly a year later, Chris Copeland and Thabo Sefolosha want to be compensated.
Each of the NBA players announced plans to sue over a chaotic New York City nightclub incident, which left Copeland stabbed by a customer and Sefolosha with a broken leg at the hands of the NYPD.
TMZ Sports reports that Copeland, who last played with the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this season, is suing 1 Oak for allowing one of its customers to stab him and his girlfriend outside of the establishment. Copeland alleges that 1 Oak showed negligence in not having preventive measures in place to thwart the attack.
Meanwhile, as fully expected, Sefolosha, who currently plays for the Atlanta Hawks, has officially slapped the NYPD with a $50 million lawsuit. According to ESPN, Sefolosha's lawsuit claims he was wrongfully arrested and that the five police officers involved used excessive force, which led to him suffering a broken leg and missing out on the Hawks' playoffs.
Although Sefolosha bounced back to play most of this season for the Hawks, there's no doubt that his NBA career and personal life took a hit.
Part of Sefolosha's lawsuit filed earlier this week also alleges that he was the target of racial profiling referencing his African descent and hoodie he was wearing during the infamous April 8, 2015, incident.
