Poet and TV Writer Aziza Barnes Dies at 32

The Los Angeles native is best known for their work on “Snowfall” and the “Game of Thrones” prequel “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.”

Poet and writer Aziza Barnes, best known for their work on shows such as Snowfall, has died. They were 32.

Barnes, who was known to their friends as Z, died after taking their own life on Dec. 15, their family confirmed. However, no further details were released.

“With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you of the passing of an undeniable and beloved artist, child, sibling, and friend Aziza ‘Z’ Barnes,” the family said in a statement. “Z has touched and inspired countless individuals both in their community and industry and will be deeply missed and endlessly loved by all who were fortunate to have experienced their presence and work.”

A BFA graduate from NYU and MFA student at the University of Mississippi, Barnes was an accomplished poet and a fellow at Callaloo and Poet's House.

Their credits include the upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” set to be released in 2025 and Max’s hip-hop drama “Rap Sh!t.”
