Milwaukee Woman Allegedly Performed Dental Work Without a License for Years
A Milwaukee woman is under scrutiny following allegations of performing dental procedures without proper licensing.
Jessica Stewart, the owner of Dr. J Dental Spa, had reportedly been under investigation for years, according to WTMJ-TV. However, the state only took action recently following a wave of new complaints about her work earlier this year.
The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) alleges that Stewart provided dental services, including placing braces and veneers—procedures that state law restricts to licensed dentists.
Despite warnings of fines and potential prosecution, Stewart allegedly continued offering these services, leading to further accusations.
Stewart has denied misrepresenting herself as a dentist. “I have not and never have claimed to be a dentist,” she wrote on social media. “While I respect and value the work and training of dentist and orthodontist, I am a proud degreed/professional, who has been afforded world class opportunities to work for and alongside some of the best dental practitioners in the world.”
She defended her practice by citing Wisconsin Statute 447.06, which she interprets as allowing her to operate legally.
Mark Paget, executive director of the Wisconsin Dental Association, expressed concern about the situation. “These people can do harm,” he said. “The patients that I heard from, she actually hurt them. And one thing about teeth—they don’t grow back.”
Paget also pointed to a regulatory loophole, noting that the DSPS's authority extends only to licensed professionals—in this case, there is no license to revoke or suspend.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office is currently reviewing the case for potential criminal charges but has not provided further details.
